You will have most safety if you buy from a garage.
But do be aware that you are only protected as long as the garage remain in business.Shold they suddenly disappear and rename themselves you have little recourse left.

How you are protected
Any description the car is given, must be in order. So its history and condition must be in line with this description, as you would expect.
If you should subsequently find out for example, that a reconditioned engine has been fitted, then the car has been misrepresented and you are fully entitled to compensation.

As in all retail use, the car must be fit for its intended purpose.
So if you should find that your newly bought used peugeot develops a defect, it's a breach of your rights under consumer legislation and you are entitled to compensation or your money back.
