Car on test : Peugeot 206 1.3 XR Presence

The 206 model was announced in 1998 and in 2000 the company added airbags.
As an extra option you can also choose to have side impact airbags.

Rigorous tests carried out by euroncap measured the size
of the passenger/drivers survival space with a head on collision.
Front seat belts, as you'd may have come to expect, are fitted with pre tensioners
to reduce forward motion in the event of a collision.

Load limits are still causing the passengers loading to be on the high side..

In the centre back seat only a 2 point static belt is fitted.
This sometimes causes spinal and stomach injuries.Something to bear in mind.

In the knee impact area, quality padding helps to spread the load, but probably not enough to remove all concerns about injuries.

Side impact area.
The 206 does not come with air bags as standard, for side impact.
However in these tests, the car performed well and and gave a low risk for
all body regions.
Although thier dummy's head hit the front edge of the cetnral door pillar, it was not with sufficient force to cause serious injury.

Child protection issue.
The airbag comes as standard and addresses risk to kids in backward facing restraints, via a switch allowing the airbag to be turned off with the key.
But if you don't set the switch propertly, the results could be fatal and there's not a fool proof warning of this.

Child seat belts face forwared and provided protection except for 18 months olds where the neck loads were too hig
