Most alloy wheel dealers will ask you to select 3 options so that
you have at least one great choice.
Firstly a top reason is weight. Alloy wheels being lighter than the standardl.
Second is style. And here the choice is great.
There's the non conservativce 3 spoke, or sensible 5 spoke or even the
square edged variety.
Then there's the claw spoke or the twisted spoke style.
You can choose the rally style of the multispike or if that doesn't suit,
go
for the highly fashion style 7 or 8 spoke.
When they first came out, the 3 spokes were new and created quite a flap.
Today, they are used mainly for small cars with the wide spokes
looking more suitable on larger cars.
If you need wheels for an MX5 or MR2 you may need a little style because
the simple 5 spoke would look more than a little lost..
The exposed wheel centres create a rally style, certainly look smart with
some so open that you can actually view the braking mechanism.
The standard makes are reaonably priced with
Momonad & Mille Miglia aiming for the upper market.
Of course this is well reflected in the price,.
Alloy wheels are offered in widths raniong from 5" to 10" and
diameters from 12" to 20"
However, if your car is the standard 13" or 14" you can retain
this or perhaps move up to 14or 15" fro the most obvious impact.
Handling becomes more sensistive with the car more responsive in cornering
but also a litle more uncomftable when hitting bumps in the road. This
happens when you increase the width and reduce the profile of your wheel.
